These House members get it: Listen to their objections to Stupak amendment

If you need some reassurance that some members of the House do in fact understand why the Stupak amendment never should have been passed (or if you yourself don't understand why it shouldn't have been passed), watch these video clips from yesterday's hearings.

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA09)

Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY18)

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT03)

Rep. Diana Degette (D-CO01)

Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY28)

Opposing abortion is not a religious thing. You cry out for choice yet you you want to deny thousand and thousand choice on how they spend their money. Your don't have to be pro-life to oppose paying for other peoples abortions. The left-wind is always talking about being opened mind, but it seems that you only want people to be open-minded when it suits your side......give me a break!

Blah blah blah blah. Such a tired argument about "choice" over how people "spend" their money. I'm sure that would go over great when people start deciding they don't want to "pay" for roads, schools, police, or other health matters ... like Viagra and vasectomies.

Fact of the matter is, 87 percent of employer-provided insurance companies RIGHT NOW cover abortions. That coverage will be taken away under Stupak. Like it or not, the amendment removes health insurance coverage of a PERFECTLY LEGAL and often NECESSARY medical procedure.

You want to talk about open-minded? Tell me how you're going to explain to millions of women that they're nothing more than second-class citizens in this country all because "pro-lifers" cry about abortion. Give ME a break and take off your fucking blinders for a second and realize your way of life isn't how life works for every single person in this country.

Necessary hahaha, more like convient. Majority of abortions are not necessary, give me a break. Abortion will still be legal, just not tax-payer funded. But way to way to use scare-tactic. mmmm I thought only the right did that hahahha.

Did I say majority? No. And get a grip, will you? Abortion wasn't going to be tax-payer funded anyway. THAT was a scare tactic.

I always love the neocons and their weasel language. "You don't have to be pro-life to oppose paying for other people's abortions." It's a cute way of trying to make themselves not sound like the wingnut anti-choicers that they are, but we all know damn well this is what it's all about.

I don't want my taxes going to the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan, I don't want my taxes going to some Medicare patient's Viagra, and I don't want my taxes going towards all sorts of things, but that's not the way our system works...

And it's completely irrelevant to this discussion. We already have provisions in place so that federal funds don't go towards abortions. What the Stupak Amendment does is make it more difficult (or impossible) for a woman with PRIVATE health insurance to get an abortion. 85% of the insurance companies in this country cover abortion, but if they participate in this government plan, it would be illegal for them to cover the procedure. If a hospital receives federal money, they can no longer perform an abortion.

Pro-tip: before you start running your fingers along the keyboard, at least make sure you have a clue what you're talking about.

"Necessary" is very much in the eye of the beholder. Is viagra "necessary"? Is massive defence spending "necessary"? Is free speech "necessary"? The fact that abortion may or may not be "necessary" does not mean it is OK to deny women access to something which health funds have previously paid for.
personally, I prefer our system in Australia, where abortion can be funded through the public health system. And too right it should be.
By the way, did any men speak against the amendment?

Godard, I believe some did, but I haven't come across video that I can post of them. I gladly will as soon as I find it.

Well isn't it nice that you wonderful people can be so proud of yourself that you are not only for killing millions of babies, but you want everyone to help participate in the killing. Lets just call you all Hitler. Lets see, they have heart-beats and body-parts and organs, but they are not humans. So what about those abortions that the fetus lives, and we just throw it in the trash and let it slowly die. Let me guess that doesn't matter cause its not a person. I bet you all are also for letting child molesters have chance after chance. And while your all at it make sure you kill off all the elderly, they are no good to us anymore anyway, they really can't manage on their own either, just like a fetus, most of them have to rely on others for survival.

LMFAO.

Thanks for the laugh Anon (by the way, real big of you to not use ANY name), at least now I know for sure exactly how crazy you are. Thanks for proving you and your kind can't be taken seriously, ever.

Wow, and to think I wasted five minutes actually thinking up a response earlier when all I had to do was point and laugh.
